Greetings Wonderful Wilderness Volunteers!

Becky Fitzpatrick and Ezra Sage, the Wilderness Rangers for the Pecos Wilderness, want to invite you to their upcoming volunteer trail day on Saturday, July 28th!

What is it:

This event will kick off with a moderate day hike and light trail work on Saturday, July 28th. Participants who want to be home for dinner will hike back to the trailhead with one of our Rangers at 3:00 pm. Participants who choose to stay overnight will get to continue up the trail to camp near Stewart Lake, where they can admire the night sky from the heart of Pecos Wilderness. On Sunday, July 29th, overnighters will head up to Lake Katherine for the chance to see one of the most splendid alpine lakes the Pecos has to offer, before finishing the loop back to the Winsor Trailhead.

Who should come:

We’re inviting anybody interested in stewardship and conservation on public lands, anyone who loves getting outside and hiking, and all those willing to use a pair of loppers, hand saw, or pick mattock.  No experience is necessary, although some physical fitness required. Kiddos and families are welcome. Contact us to ask about bringing your pupper or doggo.

Where is it? The event will take place in the Pecos Wilderness in the Santa Fe National Forest, Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District. We will meet at 9:00 am on Saturday July 28th, at the Winsor Trailhead, just above Cowles.

When should I be there:

We will meet at 9:00 am, at the Winsor Trailhead, west of Cowles, in the Pecos Canyon, on Saturday, July 28th. There will be an optional overnight for those that wish to continue on Sunday, July 29th.

Why should I Volunteer?

Get outside! Enjoy nature! Get physical exercise! Spend time with members of your community! Bond with your family and friends! Learn about your public lands! Build muscle and skill using tools like Mcleods, saws, and pick mattocks!  Give back to your public lands and help conserve your heritage!

What should I bring?

Here’s a rather exhaustive list to help you pack. Not all these items are essential, just bring what you think you’ll need.
