Students and parents from Camino Real Academy enjoy Dale Ball Trails – South on a field trip last fall. School field trips will run again in April and May, with transportation costs generously covered by the S.L. Gimbel Foundation.

Join SFCT and partners in a celebration of Dale Ball’s legacy by taking your kid (or your partner, or a friend) for a hike on Dale Ball Trails.  We will gather once again back at the Corral (“Sierra del Norte”) trailhead on Hyde Park Rd.  After a brief reflection on the lasting value of preserving our community’s open space and trails, around 1:30 we will let our feet do the walking, and hit the trails.

Pick up a copy of the newest edition of the Santa Fe Foothill Trails map, grab some goodies, and go!  Just remember to bring a water bottle, sun protection, and sensible hiking shoes or boots, and be prepared to bundle up with a warm hat, gloves, and an extra top layer (just in case).

Some of us will hike a variation on the Dale Ball North loop, with a visit to Santa Fe County’s La Piedra Open Space, which provides access to the Little Tesuque Creek and beyond to the Santa Fe National Forest.  How far you go in that direction is entirely up to you, but all are welcome to experience how the Dale Ball Trails and the La Piedra Trail now “connect the city to the sky”!

Please feel free to post or share our event flyer:

GUTS Partners Meeting @ Santa Fe Conservation Trust
Mar 20 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

The Santa Fe Fat Tire Society and the Santa Fe Conservation Trust invite you to a gathering to continue planning toward a vision of a singletrack loop trail around Santa Fe – the Grand Unified Trail System (GUTS).  Working with local land managers, the trail user and volunteer community, and the National Parks Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) program, we are assembling a project steering committee to develop the “GUTS” vision and outline steps toward achieving it.

We are holding a second meeting to this end on Fri., Mar. 20, from 12 noon to 1:30 pm at the Santa Fe Conservation Trust office, and we hope you will join us.  In this meeting, we will continue to work with interested partners to define the partnership, roles, process, and composition of the steering committee and draft a schedule of work toward the GUTS vision.

Please RSVP by email to tim@sfct.org so we know we have enough lunch for everyone.

Let me know if you’d like to attend any of these. I’ll provide directions and any important information.

Please bring a daypack with lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, etc. As always please wear long pants, long sleeves, above-ankle (non-skid) boots, leather gloves, and a smile. I’ll provide hard hats (new color has arrived), safety glasses, and tools.
