Cruising Tierra Contenta’s Arroyo Chamiso Trail

The Second Annual Southside Community Cruise:  A slow bike ride with breaks, approximately eight miles, including visits to Tierra Contenta’s Arroyo Chamiso Trail, the County River Trail / Camino Real, the City’s M.R.C. Trail, and an “Equestrian Underpass” of the Santa Fe Relief Route.  This activity is possible through support to SFCT’s Trails Program by the City of Santa Fe.For a description of how last year’s event went, see South Side Community Cruise, May 10, 2014.

Approximately 8 miles.

2400 ft. Elevation to Placer Peak

The Ortiz Mountains Educational Preserve consists of 1,350 acres in the Ortiz Mountains, including Placer Peak, the highest peak in the Ortiz range at 8,897 feet. The Preserve contains several historic mine shafts from the New Mexico gold rush in the early mid-nineteenth century. The Preserve is located approximately 30 miles southwest of Santa Fe off the Turquoise Trail scenic byway.

Galisteo Basin Preserve- Improvements to the Trail Network – National Trails Day @ Cowboy Shack

Volunteers will head out to evaluate and fix identified drainage issues on the existing trail network. After enjoying lunch on the trail, volunteers will complete their work by 1:30 pm. Please email or call Gretchen if you plan on attending.

Food + Supplies: Commonweal will provide light snacks, water and all necessary trail-finishing tools. The Trails Alliance of Santa Fe and the Fat Tire Society have generously donated use of their tools for these events.

Work Requirements and Cautions: Trail building is a moderately strenuous activity. Please wear pants, long-sleeve shirt, hat and heavy work boots.

Bring: A sack lunch, sunscreen, water bottle and work gloves.

Winsor re-route project continues!

Let me know if you’d like to attend any of these. I’ll provide directions and any important information.

Please bring a daypack with lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, etc. As always please wear long pants, long sleeves, above-ankle (non-skid) boots, leather gloves, and a smile. I’ll provide hard hats (new color has arrived), safety glasses, and tools.
