Trails Alliance of Santa Fe monthly meeting 12:00 pm Trails Alliance of Santa Fe monthly meeting May 6 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Volunteers discuss up coming trail work and issues with city, county and USFS folks. Open to everybody. | ||||||
Join a community celebration of the development of a “Grand Unified Trails System”
(GUTS) for Santa Fe on National Public Lands Day, Sat., Sept. 26. We will start with a few hours of optional volunteer maintenance on Santa Fe National Forest’s Atalaya Trail, and finish with an open community picnic partway up the mountain, hosted by SFCT. Together, we will be able to look out at the city and imagine all the wonderful connections that we can work together to achieve, in order to make the GUTS vision of a unified, interconnected trail system into a reality for Santa Fe.
To participate in the work day, meet at Wilderness Gate Trailhead at 9 am. Bring work gloves, sun protection, sturdy boots, and water. SFCT will supply hard hats and tools. Let us know if you can make it by sending an e-mail to info@sfct.org
To participate in the picnic celebration of GUTS, starting at noon, find us partway up the mountain, roughly one mile past the intersection of the Atalaya Trail and the “St. John’s Trail.” Instead of taking a left at the big cairn with the “Atalaya Overlook” sign, we will be taking a right to head across the old abandoned driveway and up the knob to the east. (Have no fear, this part will be marked!)
Winsor re-route project continues!
Let me know if you’d like to attend any of these. I’ll provide directions and any important information.
Please bring a daypack with lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, etc. As always please wear long pants, long sleeves, above-ankle (non-skid) boots, leather gloves, and a smile. I’ll provide hard hats (new color has arrived), safety glasses, and tools.
