Volunteer Trail Building Workshop, Sunday, August 30, 2015 – Co-hosted by REI  + Commonweal Conservancy

Volunteers will put the finishing touches on the new 2-mile multi-use trail during a special trail building workshop, co-hosted by REI and Commonweal on August 30, 2015. Snacks, t-shirts and raffle prizes will be shared with participants to reward their stewardship service.  The volunteer trail building workshop will be launched from the Cowboy Shack Trailhead at the Galisteo Basin Preserve. From the Preserve entrance at U.S. Highway 285, follow the red flags to the trailhead.

Schedule: We will meet at 8:30 am at the trailhead. After a brief orientation, volunteers will head out to practice their trail building skills. After enjoying lunch on the trail, volunteers will complete their work by 1:30 pm.

Food + Supplies:  Commonweal will provide light snacks, water and all necessary trail-finishing tools. The Trails Alliance of Santa Fe and the Fat Tire Society have generously donated use of their tools for this event.

Work Requirements and Cautions:  Trail building is a moderately strenuous activity.  Please wear pants, long-sleeve shirt, hat and heavy work boots.

Bring:  A sack lunch, sunscreen, water bottle and work gloves.

Interested volunteers can sign up at  http://www.rei.com/events/volunteer-trail-building-workshop-at-galisteo-basin-preserve/lamy/123979  or contact Gretchen Grogan at 505-982-0071, ext. 106 or email at gretchen.grogan@commonwealconservancy.org.  Please title your email message: RSVP for August Trail Building.

Section,  south of Hyde Park Rd.  We’ll meet at the “Corral” trailhead (Sierra del Norte Rd./Cerros Colorados Rd.) at 8:30, then we can carpool up Cerros Colorados Rd. to minimize the number of cars we need to park up there.

We will work west of Cerros Colorados Rd. where it is crossed by Dale Ball Trails.  There is some parking space on the gravel where the trail emerges just w. of Junction 21.  After taking a look at the nifty re-route we did a few weeks ago, we will focus on needs on “the luge” and north and south of Junction 19.

Bring work boots, long pants/shirt sleeves, sun protection, snacks, and water.

To sign up, contact Tim Rogers at tim@sfct.org
